He is pursuing an MBA from the University of Texas at San Antonio to further enhance his qualifications and commitment to professional growth and community service.

He has risen through the ranks from Police Officer to Detective to Sergeant to Lieutenant to Captain while pursuing higher education goals and serving in Place 5 on the Garden Ridge City Council. Brian is recognized as a community leader who enthusiastically shares his modern leadership practices within public service. As a city council member, he has been instrumental in negotiating city budgets, evaluating contracts and bids for city projects, and fostering public engagement to reflect the needs of our community. 

Reyes applies his expertise in analyzing public service policies and collaborating with government officials to promote a transparent relationship with the public. He has been equally effective in high-pressure environments, balancing diverse priorities while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships to align organizational objectives with community needs. Throughout his career, Reyes has honed a results-driven approach to police leadership and community service, integrating his business and academic background to foster effective and transparent management practices. 

Brian’s leadership roles, including his current position as a City Councilman and as a Commander in the San Antonio Police Department, reflect his influence and impact on public safety and governance. Brian also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at Texas State University and other Texas universities.

EDUCATION and EARLY CAREER

Brian Reyes, a native of San Antonio, TX, has always been fascinated by psychology. This interest led him to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. However, his professional life took a pivotal turn when he joined the San Antonio Police Department as a Police Patrol Officer in 2001. He quickly rose through the ranks while continuing to pursue higher education with a focus on criminal justice at Texas State University, where he received his Master’s in Criminal Justice. Brian’s background and interests have always influenced his professional choices, and he believes that the executive levels of the criminal justice system are where he can make a greater impact on the community.

In 2005, Reyes was promoted to higher ranks as an Investigative Detective in several units, including Homicide and Property Crimes. His early success was instrumental in many departmental promotions that offered greater responsibility to the public and the rank and file. By 2009, Brian had successfully served in the San Antonio Police Department as a Patrol Sergeant, then Lieutenant, followed by a stint as an Internal Affairs Commander from 2016 to 2018. He continued to pursue higher education goals, earning his PhD in Criminal Justice from Texas State University.

During this same period, Brian began applying his criminal justice knowledge and field experience to train the next generation of criminal justice servants as a Training Academy Commander to improve leadership development across departments by supervising the leadership program from the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). He also became associated with several highly visible Texas universities as an Adjunct Professor, where he still teaches numerous criminal justice courses, including several classes in Leadership and Management at the graduate level.

CAREER as COMMANDING OFFICER

Brian Reyes of San Antonio is proud of his career as a Commanding Officer for the San Antonio Airport Police and the San Antonio Police Department. He is working towards accomplishing his goal of becoming Chief of Police while serving as Patrol Operations Commander. In this role, he ensures rapid and effective crisis management by coordinating investigative responses to critical incidents, including officer-involved incidents, barricades, hostage situations, and complex robbery investigations. Reyes applies his extensive background and over 17 years of executive, command, and supervisory experience, where he consistently championed servant leadership and community-focused strategies to enhance public safety and build trust within the community. 

Before returning to the San Antonio Police Department as a Commanding Officer, Brian completed a stint as Commander of the San Antonio Airport Police Department. He oversaw police service to nearly 10.7M passengers annually while also establishing and maintaining effective communication channels with federal, state, and local agencies. For over 25 years, Reyes has served to provide leadership and command over patrol, K9, recruiting, applicant processing, and training academy units in San Antonio, where he has demonstrated his dedication to law enforcement and public safety in one of the largest cities in the country and continues to champion community-focused strategies that build trust between public and private sectors.

COMMUNITY ADVOCATE

Brian Reyes of San Antonio is not just a public figure but also a dedicated family man. He resides in Garden Ridge with his wife, Bobbie, and their four children. In May 2024, he was elected to serve as City Councilman for Place 5, where he brings his extensive background of executive leadership and team supervision to consistently champion for the community. As a results-oriented leader, Brian’s commitment to public safety and building trust between constituents and community leaders is unwavering. He remains a Police Captain but is committed to expanding his positive outreach by serving in local politics and being a community advocate. 

Throughout his extensive law enforcement career and current position as Garden Ridge elected official, Reyes has cemented his legacy as a community advocate. His dedication and service have not gone unnoticed, as he was nominated to assist on the Presidential Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Justice. Brian’s commitment to the community extends beyond his professional roles. He has been a CYO Baseball and Basketball Coach and Little League VP Board Member for many years. He has also served as a Pastoral Council Member (President & Vice-President roles). Reyes is an active member of the American Criminal Justice Association and the Hispanic American Police Command Officers Association.
